OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Treadway Racing Stable's Kept True was honest in backing up her favoritism and turned the tables on Cash Offer in notching her first stakes victory in Saturday's $100,000 Broadway for New York-bred fillies and mares at Aqueduct Racetrack.
Never out of contention throughout the six-furlong journey, the dark bay daughter of Yes It's True displayed her usual close-to-the-pace running style under regular rider Dylan Davis as Stonesintheroad took command just to her outside and led the tightly-packed six-horse field though an opening quarter mile in 23.03 seconds over a fast main track.
Around the far turn, Kept True was full of run and took charge under little urging from Davis at the quarter-pole. Approaching the furlong marker, Davis took a peak over his right shoulder but saw no one making up ground. Kept True drew off to win the Broadway by three lengths completing the journey in 1:11.51.
Cash Offer, who bested Kept True last out in the seven-furlong La Verdad, made a late bid to get second finishing a half-length to the better of Hay Field.
Bluegrass Jamboree, Stonesintheroad and Out of Orbit completed the order of finish.
Davis notched his fourth stakes victory of the meet aboard Kept True, who returned $5.80 as the 9-5 post time favorite.
"My filly really likes the six furlongs," Davis said of Kept True, who has now won three of five starts at the distance. "It was a little bit of tactics to figure out where I wanted to be. I loved my position laying second, and she was just waiting for me to tell her to go. Once I did, she really took off. She really ran well. I think she's improving."
Trained by Leah Gyarmati, Kept True, a five-time winner of 10 starts, banked $55,000 in victory while enhancing her lifetime earnings to $294,834. She kept her consistent record at the Big A intact boasting a record of 5-2-2-0 at the Queens County oval.
Gyarmati said she expects better things down the road from her newly minted stakes winning filly.
"Dylan has obviously been doing great with her. She has always shown ability; it was just a matter of trying to figure out what her level is," Gyarmati said. "Against open company that was obviously a different ballgame. As time passes, I think she's getting a little better and stronger. Some horses don't bloom until they are 4 or 5, and you have to have patience. She's obviously a very nice New York-bred filly."
Bred by Treadway Racing Stable's Jeffrey Treadway, Kept True is out of the three-time stakes-placed Henny Hughes broodmare Well Kept and is a direct descendant of 1989 Champion Sprinter and Hall of Famer Safely Kept.
Live racing resumes on Sunday at the Big A with a nine-race program headlined by the $100,000 Gander going a one-turn mile over the main track for 3-year-olds. First post is 1:00 p.m. Eastern.
