Pick 6 carryover of $53K into Saturday’s Belmont at the Big A card

by Keith McCalmont

Saturday’s Belmont at the Big A card will feature a $1 Pick 6 carryover of $53,306 after the multi-race wager went unsolved on Friday’s nine-race program.

The $1 Pick 6 returned $2,221 for bettors who selected 5-of-6 winners correctly.

Friday’s sequence kicked off in Race 4 with Big Engine [No. 8, $21.80] roaring to victory in a six-furlong optional-claiming tilt for state-breds 3-years-old and up. Trevor McCarthy piloted the winner for conditioner Rudy Rodriguez.

Tizzy in the Sky [No. 3, $4.50], with Joel Rosario up for conditioner Jose Camejo, drew off to an impressive maiden score as the mutuel favorite in Race 5, a one-turn mile for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up.

Dr. Settle’s Dream [No. 7, $27], sent to post at odds of 12-1, topped a $393.50 exacta in Race 6 over 70-1 shot Be of Courage in Race 6, a six-furlong outer turf maiden special weight for New York-bred juveniles. Junior Alvarado engineered the upset for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott.

In Race 7, an 11-furlong inner turf allowance for 3-year-olds and up, the Jose Ortiz-piloted Shawdyshawdyshawdy [No. 8, $13.80] bested favored Orchestration for conditioner Jorge Abreu one race before Gambling Girl [No. 6, $8.50] captured the featured Joseph A. Gimma for Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher and jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr.

With only two horses covered in the Race 9 finale, 8-1 shot Blame It On Mary [No. 9, $19] won for the second time in 19 starts, notching an impressive score in a six-furlong outer turf allowance for state-bred fillies and mares 3-years-old and up.

Saturday’s Pick 6 sequence begins in Race 6 at 3:45 p.m. Eastern and includes the $125,000 Ashley T. Cole in Race 10. First post on the 11-race card is 1:00 p.m.
