The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) has canceled live racing on Thursday afternoon at Aqueduct Racetrack following the day's fifth race due to sustained high winds forecast to continue through the afternoon in the New York City metropolitan area.
With the National Weather Service calling for gusts exceeding 40mph, the stewards consulted with the jockeys following the fifth race and determined that prevailing conditions were unsafe to continue and canceled the remainder of the card in the best interests of all participants.
Aqueduct Racetrack and the Belmont Café will remain open for simulcasting and online wagering is available through NYRA Bets.
According to New York State Gaming Commission rules, full refunds will be issued on new money wagered on Thursday into the Pick 6 and NYRA Bets Late Pick 5 pools.
In addition, the Grand Slam and Late Pick 4 will be refunded.
Live racing will resume on Friday, January 11 at Aqueduct with an 8-race card featuring single-day carryovers in both the Pick 6 and NYRA Bets Late Pick 5.
The NYRA Bets Late Pick 5, covering the last five races of every card at NYRA tracks and available exclusively to NYRA Bets members across the country, went unsolved on Sunday resulting in a carryover of $32,495. The Pick 6 sequence also went unsolved on Sunday at the Big A triggering a $26,214 carryover.
When live racing resumes on Friday, the Pick 6 will begin in Race 3 with an approximate post of 1:55 p.m. The NYRA Bets Late Pick 5 will begin in Race 4 with a post time of 2:26 p.m.
First-race post time on Friday is 12:50 p.m.
