Triple Pick 6 carryover of $227K on tap Thursday; Paulassilverlining back in action in Saturday's Garland of Roses

by NYRA Press Office

The first day of live racing on the inner dirt track at Aqueduct Racetrack fared no better for favorites as the Pick 6 went unclaimed for the third consecutive day, leading to a three-day carryover of $227,352 into Thursday's card.

Wednesday's sequence kicked off with Treatherlikestar (No. 5, $17.60) victorious in Race 3, followed by A. P. Cino (Race 4, No. 7, $7.10), Picco Uno (Race 5, No. 8, $5.80), and Argyle Gal (Race 6, No. 6, $10.20). Longshots Unrepented (No. 4, $20.00) and Justenufflaughter (No. 8, $39.80) completed the day's sequence in Races 7 and 8, respectively.

A consolation payout of $4,680 was awarded to bettors who had five of six winners.

The Pick 6 will begin with Race 3 on Thursday's eight-race card, which has a scheduled post time of 1:18 p.m. ET.

First post is at 12:20 p.m. Gates at Aqueduct and Belmont Café open at 11 a.m.

Wagering on the Pick 6 is available through NYRA Bets, on-track, and Belmont Café, as well as simulcast facilities across the country.

Vincent Scuderi's multiple graded stakes winner Paulassilverlining is set to make her first start since finishing third in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint, headlining a field of seven going six furlongs over Aqueduct Racetrack's inner track in the 31st running of the $125,000 Garland of Roses for fillies and mares on Saturday.

Trained by Michelle Nevin, the daughter of Ghostzapper boasts a 5-4-3 record in 14 stakes starts, including victories in 2016 in the Grade 2 Gallant Bloom Handicap and the Grade 3 Distaff Handicap. In the Breeders' Cup, Paulassilverlining raced in second between horses before being passed late in the stretch finish two lengths behind Finest City.

Jose Ortiz, who rode the 4-year-old filly to stakes wins in the Distaff and Grade 3 Vagrancy Handicap, will be back aboard Paulassilverlining, set to leave from post 6.

Lining up to take a shot at Paulassilverlining in the Garland of Roses is Kelsocait for trainer Gary Contessa. Looking to rebound from a disappointing 13th-place finish following a stumbled start in the Safely Kept, the 3-year-old Drosselmeyer filly will be ridden by Kendrick Carmouche from the rail. Gold Square LLC's homebred Black Mission Fig, winner of the Dr. Teresa Garofalo Memorial at Parx Racing in September, will make her New York debut for trainer Michael Lerman, set to break from post 3 with Carol Cedeno in the irons.

Rounding out the field are supplemental nominee My Savannah Belle, fifth to Paulassilverlining this spring in her lone graded stakes start in the Distaff, who will be ridden by Rajiv Maragh from post 4; the Mario Serey-trained Disco Chick, third in the Pumpkin Pie last time out and set to break from post 2 with jockey Jackie Davis; Lucio Tucci's Old Valyria, set to make her first start for the Rudy Rodriguez barn with Angel Arroyo named to ride from post 5; and Callista, trained by Mark Hennig for Donna Adam, making her stakes debut from the outside post with Junior Alvarado in the saddle.
