Double Pick 6 carryover of $84K for Saturday’s program at Aqueduct Racetrack

by Mary Eddy

Saturday’s 10-race card at Aqueduct Racetrack will feature a double Pick 6 carryover of $84,991 after the multi-race wager went unsolved for the second consecutive day on Friday’s nine-race program.

The $1 Pick 6 returned $1,263.50 to bettors who selected 5-of-6 winners correctly.

The sequence began in Race 4 with the Peter Chin-trained Acalteque [No. 3, $33.20] scoring a $10,000 claiming win to give apprentice rider Erick Fuentes his first career victory. Stakes-placed Silver Skillet [No. 2, $4.30*] then graduated in Race 5, a one-mile state-bred maiden special weight, for conditioner Christophe Clement under Manny Franco.

Shinfull [No. 9, $7.60] broke her maiden under Kendrick Carmouche in a 6 1/2-furlong state-bred sprint for trainer Rick Schosberg in Race 6, one race before Lord Gatling [No. 4, $38.20] provided the largest upset of the sequence under Romero Maragh for trainer Edmund Pringle in Race 7.

Trainer Timothy Hills took the day’s featured Race 8, a one-mile allowance optional claimer, with the Jason Huayas-piloted Sweet Surprise [No. 8, $10.80]. With just three horses uncovered in the final leg, Honest Banker [No. 1A, $33.20] drew away down the stretch under Jorge Vargas, Jr. in Race 9 to score a debut victory for trainer Rob Atras and trigger the carryover.

Saturday’s Pick 6 sequence begins in Race 5 [1:42 p.m. Eastern] and features the $500,000 NYSSS Fifth Avenue in Race 7, the $100,000 Alex M. Robb in Race 8 and the $500,000 NYSSS Great White Way in Race 9. First post is 11:50 a.m.
