The Stewards' Corner
Welcome to the Stewards’ Corner, where you will find explanations of the decisions that our stewards make on race days. Directly following any decision they make having to do with the official order of finish, including inquiries and objections, the stewards – one appointed by The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), one appointed by the New York State Gaming Commission, and one appointed by The Jockey Club (TJC) – provide an explanation of what happened and the reason for their decision. Race Decisions - January 17, 2014
Race 7: Stewards inquiry and jockeys objection from rider of the fifth place horse # 3 Thor’s Mjolnor (W. Garcia) against the fourth place finisher # 2 Iron Power (M. Franco) and # 9 Mississippi Duel (J. Ortiz) for alleged interference in the vicinity of the 3/8 pole. # 3 must check in tight between # 2 on the rail and # 9 outside. # 2 is turned out after contact with # 3 with the pressure coming from outside. # 9 finishes last.
The objection is dismissed and the race declared official as is.
NOTE: At the time of the inquiry/objection, there were technical issues with the infield tote board and the numbers of the finish could not be displayed properly. The official finish and prices were delayed until the proper order of finish could be posted.
