The Stewards' Corner

Welcome to the Stewards’ Corner, where you will find explanations of the decisions that our stewards make on race days. Directly following any decision they make having to do with the official order of finish, including inquiries and objections, the stewards – one appointed by The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), one appointed by the New York State Gaming Commission, and one appointed by The Jockey Club (TJC) – provide an explanation of what happened and the reason for their decision. Click on the links below to read those explanations.

Race Decisions - January 5, 2013

RACE 1:Steward’s Inquiry into the Start - # 6 More Falling Star (S. Camacho, Jr.) dwelt at the start. The horse was not impeded. The race was declared official as is.

RACE 4:Jockey’s Objection: Jacqueline Davis, the rider of # 4 My Cousin Eddie, lodged an objection against the winner, # 6 Firstbellathenkk (Julissa Laredo) for alleged interference shortly after the start. In the judgment of the stewards, the incident did not alter the finish of the race and the objection was disallowed. The race was declared official as is.

RACE 7: Stewards inquiry and jockeys objection into the stretch run. The # 3 Asiya (E Castro) clips heels and stumbles in deep stretch with the # 4 Ruby Lips (I Ortiz Jr) who is tiring while drifting in and out. After reviewing  the video and in the opinion of the stewards the # 4 is disqualified from 2nd and placed 3rd behind the # 3 Asiya.
