The Stewards' Corner

Welcome to the Stewards’ Corner, where you will find explanations of the decisions that our stewards make on race days. Directly following any decision they make having to do with the official order of finish, including inquiries and objections, the stewards – one appointed by The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), one appointed by the New York State Gaming Commission, and one appointed by The Jockey Club (TJC) – provide an explanation of what happened and the reason for their decision. Race Decisions - November 17, 2013

RACE 4: Steward’s Inquiry and Jockey’s Objection:  Junior Alvarado, the rider of # 5 Seeking Her Glory, lodged an objection against the winner, # 4 Hardly (Javier Castellano) for interference in the stretch run.

# 4 drifts out gradually during the stretch run, and in the vicinity of the 1/16 pole, # 5 steadies and alters course to the inside.  # 4 is clear at the time, though far out in the course.
# 4 finishes first, beating # 5 by approximately 3 lengths.  In the judgment of the stewards, the incident did not alter the finish of the race.

The race was declared official as is.
