The Stewards' Corner
Welcome to the Stewards’ Corner, where you will find explanations of the decisions that our stewards make on race days. Directly following any decision they make having to do with the official order of finish, including inquiries and objections, the stewards – one appointed by The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), one appointed by the New York State Gaming Commission, and one appointed by The Jockey Club (TJC) – provide an explanation of what happened and the reason for their decision. Race Decisions - December 15, 2010
RACE 7: Inquiry into the running up the backstretch approaching the ½ mile pole. The # 5 Rampant [J Davis ] is in tight and clipps heels with # 9 Charing Cross [V Santiago . The race is official as is.
RACE 8: Steward’s inquiry and Jockeys objection into the stretch run around the 1/8 pole. # 4 Brahman ( D Cohen) against # 3 Bravo Romeo ( J Lezcano ) . While racing between # 3 and # 2 Hardshell ( C C Lopez ) the # 4 has to steady a jump. After reviewing the films it did not affect the outcome of the race. Official as is.
4035.2. Foul riding penalized.
(d) A jockey shall not ride carelessly or willfully such that his mount, equipment, or any item or object under his or her control interferes with, impedes, intimidates, or injures another horse or jockey in the race, including that a jockey shall not carelessly or willfully strike another horse or jockey or his or her equipment with his or her whip. The stewards may disqualify the horse ridden by the jockey who committed the foul if the foul was willful or careless or may have altered the finish of the race; the stewards may also take into consideration mitigating factors such as whether the impeded horse was partly at fault or if the foul was caused by the fault of some other horse or jockey.
