The Stewards' Corner

Welcome to the Stewards’ Corner, where you will find explanations of the decisions that our stewards make on race days. Directly following any decision they make having to do with the official order of finish, including inquiries and objections, the stewards – one appointed by The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), one appointed by the New York State Gaming Commission, and one appointed by The Jockey Club (TJC) – provide an explanation of what happened and the reason for their decision. Race Decisions - April 23, 2014

Race 1: Steward’s Inquiry involving the stretch run.    In the vicinity of the 1/16 pole, # 6 Denzel (Irad Ortiz, Jr.) drifts out and continues until making contact with # 1 Reserved Quality ( Cornelio Velasquez) nearing the wire.  # 1 finishes first by a narrow margin, and there is no action warranted.

The race was declared official as is.

Race 7: Stewards inquiry in the vicinity of the ¼ pole. # 9 Strike Accord(J. Ortiz)  while racing in tight quarters behind a tiring #4 Marcy(M. Studart)  clips  heels of #2 Joy Seeker(I. Ortiz Jr.) almost unseating the rider. #9 Joy Seeker goes on to finish second. After reviewing the video and in the judgment of the stewards no further action was warranted. The race is official as is.
