by Najja Thompson

The latest episode of the Across the Board with Andy Serling podcast features an extended conversation with trainer Christophe Clement, now available for download.

Clement is coming off a momentous week during the October Racing Festival at Belmont Park, in which he saddled five winners from 11 starts, highlighted by victories in the Belmont Turf Sprint Invitational with multiple graded stakes winner Disco Partner, Have At It in the Grade 2, $500,000 Hill Prince, Lonely Road in the Grade 3, $150,000 Matron and Blacktype in the $200,000 Knickerbocker. Clement joined Serling from Belmont overlooking the historic paddock to talk about his prolific career and the thoroughbred racing industry.

Born in Paris, France into a successful racing family in which his father and grandfather were also trainers, Clement worked as an assistant to his brother Nicolai before moving to the United States to work for Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGuaghey. After a brief return to Europe where he was an assistant for the legendary trainer Luca Cumani, Clement went out on his own in 1991 and has gone on to become one of the most respected trainers in the industry conditioning on significant horses such as Gio Ponti, Winchester, Funny Moon and Tonalist.
