First-leg longshot leads to double Pick 6 Carryover of $128K into Sunday’s Belmont card

Bolstered by a longshot in the opening leg, the Pick 6 went unsolved for a second straight day, resulting in a $128,746 carryover into Sunday’s card at Belmont Park.
Saturday’s Pick 6 started when 28-1 longshot Monaghan won a one-mile claiming race on the Widener turf. The Michelle Nevin trainee returned $59.50 on a $2 win wager. Papa Jim’s maiden-breaking win in Race 6 paid $13.40, with the New York-bred victorious for trainer Jeffrey Englehart.
The only two favorites to win on the 10-race card triumphed in the next two races, with Xanthique [$6.10] and Smokin Platinum [$5.80] winning races 8 and 9, respectively.
Trainer Chad Brown saw his horses post the trifecta in the day’s feature in Race 10, with Blowout [$7.50] finishing ahead of stablemates Nova Sol and Seek and Destroy in the $100,000 Wild Applause for 3-year-old fillies going one mile on the Widener turf.
Jack the Cat broke his maiden at third asking in the 10th race finale, paying $12.20.
A consolation payout of $2,937 was awarded to bettors who had five of six winners in the Pick 6.
Live racing resumes Sunday at Belmont with a nine-race card highlighted by the $150,000 NYSSS Cupecoy’s Joy and the $150,000 NYSSS Spectacular Bid. First post is 1:30 p.m. with the Pick 6 starting in Race 4 at 3:08 p.m.
