On Leave looks to go four in a row in G2 Sands Point

by NYRA Press Office

Stuart Janney III's homebred On Leave will look to extend her win streak to four when she makes her graded stakes debut in the 22nd running of the Grade 2, $500,000 Sands Point on Saturday at Belmont Park.

A 3-year-old half-sister to multiple Grade 2 winner Ironicus, On Leave has been perfect in three starts this year for Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey since returning from an eight-month layoff this spring. The gray daughter of War Front broke her maiden by two lengths in her sophomore debut at Belmont in June and returned to post a three-quarter-length victory against optional claimers the following month.

On Leave proved much the best in her stakes unveiling this summer at Saratoga Race Course, overcoming a troubled beginning to draw off to a 2 ½-length victory in the Riskaverse on August 25.

Installed as the 5-2 morning-line favorite, On Leave will be ridden by her regular jockey Jose Ortiz from post 5.

With three European victories already under her belt, Al Jazi is bringing her talents across the pond for her North American debut for owners Al Shaqab Racing and trainer Francois Rohaut.

The Irish-bred Canford Cliffs filly scored her first stakes victory at Goodwood in Great Britain, taking the Group 3 L'Ormarins Queens Plate by 1 ¾ lengths in July.

Set to break from the outside post as the 7-2 second choice on the morning line, European jockey Gregory Benoist has the call aboard Al Jazi.

My Meadowview Farm's Grade 3 Boiling Spring winner Tin Type Gal will look to rebound from her fifth-place finish in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks on August 20 for trainer Graham Motion.

The Tapit filly, who won the Grade 3 Miss Grillo at Belmont last fall to close out her juvenile season, will depart from post 4 with Trevor McCarthy aboard.

Fresh off his first training title at Saratoga this summer, Chad Brown will send a trio of contenders in Galileo's Song, Noble Beauty and Elysea's World.

Boiling Spring runner-up Galileo's Song, a $475,000 weanling purchase for Dell Ridge Farm, will leave from the rail with Jose Lezcano in the irons. Noble Beauty, elevated to victory in the Grade 3 Pucker Up via disqualification this summer at Arlington Park, drew post 3 and will be ridden by Javier Castellano while Elysea's World, fourth last time out in the Grade 2 Lake Placid, will break from post 6 with Hall of Famer John Velazquez aboard.

Rounding out the field is Diamond Fields, third last time out in the Lake Placid, for owner Mary Slack and trainer Tommy Stack. The Irish-bred filly by Fastnet Rock will be ridden by Junior Alvarado from post 2.
