Pick 6 carryover of $35K into Saturday’s card at Belmont Park
by Keith McCalmont
Saturday’s Pick 6 will be boosted by a $35,712 carryover, as the multi-race wager went unsolved on Friday at Belmont Park.
The $1 Pick 6, implemented at the current 48-day Belmont spring/summer meet, returned $793.50 to bettors who selected 5-of-6 winners correctly.
Friday’s sequence kicked off in Race 4 with Joycee Haz Pizzaz [No. 2, $28.20] overcoming a troubled trip to capture the 6 1/2-furlong main-track sprint under Luis Saez for trainer Ed DeLauro.
Quiet Out East [No. 7, $29.20] provided consecutive double-digit winners by winning Race 5, a seven-furlong turf sprint, under Hector Rafael Diaz, Jr. for trainer Bruce Brown.
Saez scored again in Race 6, guiding Jeanie B [No. 6, $9.80] to victory in a six-furlong inner turf sprint for Hall of Famer Mark Casse, and the veteran rider added his fourth win on the card by piloting Wicked Indeed [No. 9, $7.60] to win Race 7, a seven-furlong main-track sprint for Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen.
Hall of Famer Javier Castellano captured the penultimate leg aboard Caldee [No. 3, $10.60] for trainer Brad Cox in a one-mile turf test.
Manny Franco closed out the proceedings as Determined Fury [No. 10, $12.40] launched a strong stretch-run surge to capture a six-furlong inner-turf sprint for trainer Christophe Clement.
Featuring a $1 bet minimum and 15 percent takeout, the Pick 6 wager requires bettors to select the first-place finisher of six designated races on the card. A total of 75 percent of the full pool, minus takeout, will be distributed to bettors who select the first-place finisher of all six races. A consolation payout of 25 percent of the net pool will be distributed to tickets selecting 5-of-6 winners.
In the event there are no tickets with six winners, there will be a carryover of 75 percent of the net pool into the next day of the meet with the remaining 25 percent of the net pool distributed as a consolation payout to tickets selecting the first-place finisher in the greatest number of races on the card. On carryover days, the Pick 6 is offered with a 24 percent takeout.
The $1 Pick 6 replaced the Empire 6, a jackpot style wager featuring a $0.20 bet minimum first offered in August 2019 at Saratoga Race Course.
Saturday’s Pick 6 kicks off in Race 5 at 3:02 p.m. Eastern and will include the Grade 2, $200,000 Pennine Ridge, a nine-furlong turf test for sophomores in Race 9. First post on Saturday’s 10-race card is 1 p.m. Eastern.
