Pick 6 carryover of $36K into Sunday’s card at Belmont Park
by Keith McCalmont
Sunday’s Pick 6 will be boosted by a $36,011 carryover, as the multi-race wager went unsolved on Saturday at Belmont Park.
The $1 Pick 6, implemented at the current 48-day Belmont spring/summer meet, returned $333 to bettors who selected 5-of-6 winners correctly.
Saturday’s sequence kicked off in Race 6 with Subsidiary [No. 4, $8.20] capturing a one-turn mile starter allowance under Luis Rodriguez Castro for trainer Orlando Noda.
Quick Nick [No. 11, $5.60] sprinted to victory in Race 7 at six furlongs over the inner turf for trainer Christophe Clement and jockey Manny Franco, while Joe Bravo piloted Masterof the Tunes [No. 3, $14.60] to victory in a 1 1/16-mile jaunt over the Widener turf in Race 8 for trainer Joe Lee.
The biggest price in the sequence came in Race 9 when Franco guided Supreme Aura [No. 7, $26.60] to victory in a one-turn claiming mile on Big Sandy for conditioner Rudy Rodriguez.
Clement struck again in the featured Grade 3 Soaring Softly as Bye Bye overcame outermost post 11 to secure a neck victory over Invincible Gal in the seven-furlong Widener turf sprint for sophomore fillies.
Only Triple Americano [No. 2] was covered in the finale as Clement provided his third win in the sequence when Panster [No. 9, $4.90] powered to victory in a six-furlong inner turf sprint under Junior Alvarado.
Featuring a $1 bet minimum and 15 percent takeout, the Pick 6 wager requires bettors to select the first-place finisher of six designated races on the card. A total of 75 percent of the full pool, minus takeout, will be distributed to bettors who select the first-place finisher of all six races. A consolation payout of 25 percent of the net pool will be distributed to tickets selecting 5-of-6 winners.
In the event there are no tickets with six winners, there will be a carryover of 75 percent of the net pool into the next day of the meet with the remaining 25 percent of the net pool distributed as a consolation payout to tickets selecting the first-place finisher in the greatest number of races on the card. On carryover days, the Pick 6 is offered with a 24 percent takeout.
The $1 Pick 6 replaced the Empire 6, a jackpot style wager featuring a $0.20 bet minimum first offered in August 2019 at Saratoga Race Course.
Sunday’s Pick 6 kicks off in Race 4 at 2:32 p.m. Eastern and will feature four turf races, including an allowance optional claiming turf sprint in Race 9 offering a purse of $85.000. First post on Sunday’s 9-race card is 1 p.m. Eastern.
