The main gate will be adorned with pink bows, the iconic statue of Secretariat in the paddock will be draped with a pink blanket and pink ribbons will festoon the box seats in the grandstand on Saturday, October 5, when Belmont Park holds "Fabulous Fillies Day" to raise funds to support breast cancer research and celebrate women.
Fans who wear pink on Saturday can participate in a "Paddock Pink-Out" photo opportunity on the steps surrounding the paddock, and also can enter to win two clubhouse seats to the 2014 running of the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes, the oldest and longest leg of the Triple Crown. Additionally, the best-turned-out "Fabulous Filly (and Fellow)" will be selected to present a trophy to the winners of a race on the afternoon's card.
"Paddock Pink-Out" participants will receive perfume samples and chocolates while supplies last, and fans also can have their picture taken in the clubhouse lobby with Miss New York City 2013, Acacia Courtney.
On the main floor will be the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, which will be giving out pink bracelets to those who make donations.
The second floor of the clubhouse will feature the Fabulous Fillies Boutique and Women's Art Show and "Women in Racing" and "Play for P.I.N.K." information tables, and the band Shannon Breeze will perform all afternoon in the backyard.
Continuing the theme, the New York Racing Association flag in the infield will be pink, and grooms who accompany the horses to the track all will wear pink vests.
On track, Belmont will offer an exciting afternoon of racing including a trio of prestigious Grade 1 races: The $500,000 Foxwoods Champagne for 2-year-olds, the $500,000 Frizette for 2-year-old fillies, and the $500,000 Jamaica for 3-year-old turf horses.
