One of the most brilliant performances in the history of the Widener turf course at Belmont Park came on July 4, 1998. Elusive Quality was sent to the front in Poker (G3) by Hall of Fame jockey Jerry Bailey and never looked back, running the one-mile event in a scorching 1:31.63, a world record at the time that still stands as the course record. The Bill Mott trainee had previously won the Jaipur (G3) and went on to become a stand-out sire.

Due to rain, the 2014 edition of the race was contested on the main track.
