Welcome to the Stewards’ Corner, where you will find explanations of the decisions that our stewards make on race days. Directly following any decision they make having to do with the official order of finish, including inquiries and objections, the stewards – one appointed by The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), one appointed by the New York State Gaming Commission, and one appointed by The Jockey Club (TJC) – provide an explanation of what happened and the reason for their decision. Race Decisions - October 20, 2013
RACE 5: Stewards inquiry into the start of race 5 the # 7 Master Jordan (G Rodriguez) stumbles leaving the gate unseating the rider. After reviewing the video the race is official as is.
RACE 6: Steward’s Inquiry: In the vicinity of the 3/8 pole, # 4 Transplendid (L. Saez) is racing in close behind # 5 Hillbilly Hula Gal (G. Rodriquez) and # 2 Today Not Tomorrow (A. Arroyo) on the rail.
# 4 clip heels of # 5 and falls, with # 6 Uman Candy (M. Franco) unseating the jockey while attempting to avoid the fallen horse.
No further action was warranted and the race was declared official as is.
RACE 9: Steward’s Inquiry: In the vicinity of the 3/8 pole, # 1 Spirit of Peace ( A. Castillo, Jr.) is in tight on the rail and must take up sharply, shifting out due to pressure from outside horses.
# 4 Poliziano (E. Esquivel) must check to avoid # 1, and the jockey is unseated. A review of the films does not demonstate an individual horse at fault, and the race was declared official as is.
