Welcome to the Stewards’ Corner, where you will find explanations of the decisions that our stewards make on race days. Directly following any decision they make having to do with the official order of finish, including inquiries and objections, the stewards – one appointed by The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), one appointed by the New York State Gaming Commission, and one appointed by The Jockey Club (TJC) – provide an explanation of what happened and the reason for their decision. Race Decisions - May 24, 2014
Race 2: Stewards inquiry into the start concerning # 1 Sugeily(F. Valentine) ducks in sharply at start unseating her rider. After reviewing the video the stewards found no reason for a change and the race was official as is.
Race 5: Steward’s Inquiry and Jockey’s Objection: Wilmer Garcia, the rider of the second placed horse, # 15 Charming Eyes, lodged an objection against the winner, # 5 Ascended Fever (Luis Saez) for alleged interference through the stretch. # 5 does drift out gradually under a left-handed crop passing the 1/8 pole and corrects inside the 1/16 pole to pull away, finishing first by a half-length margin.
After reviewing the race videos and hearing statements from the riders involved, the stewards disallowed the objection. The race was declared official as is.
