Stewards Corner

Welcome to the Stewards’ Corner, where you will find explanations of the decisions that our stewards make on race days. Directly following any decision they make having to do with the official order of finish, including inquiries and objections, the stewards – one appointed by The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), one appointed by the New York State Gaming Commission, and one appointed by The Jockey Club (TJC) – provide an explanation of what happened and the reason for their decision. Click on the links below to read those explanations.

Race Decisions - June 29, 2012

RACE 6: Steward’s inquiry and jockeys objection. The # 6 Siberian Wildcat ( R Maragh) lodged an objection against the # 4 Just Safe (C Montalvo) for alleged interference in the vicinity of the ¼ pole.

The # 4 drops in abruptly on the # 6 causing him to take up sharply then goes on to get beat for 3rd by a half a length. After reviewing the video it is the opinion of the Stewards that this incident did alter the outcome of the race, and the # 4 is disqualified from 2nd and placed 4th behind the # 6.

RACE 9: Objection into the start.  J. Sallusto, the trainer of # 3 Mingunade (E. Castro), lodged an objection against the winner, # 2 Alternative (D. Cohen) for alleged interference at the start.

After reviewing the race videos, the objection was disallowed and the race declared official as is.
