Welcome to the Stewards’ Corner, where you will find explanations of the decisions that our stewards make on race days. Directly following any decision they make having to do with the official order of finish, including inquiries and objections, the stewards – one appointed by The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), one appointed by the New York State Gaming Commission, and one appointed by The Jockey Club (TJC) – provide an explanation of what happened and the reason for their decision. Race Decisions - June 5, 2013
Race 3: Steward’s Inquiry and Jockey’s Objection into the stretch run.
Sebastian Madrid, the rider of # 4 Goesse, lodged an objection against the #’s 1 Rugged (C. Velasquez) and # 8 Our Emerald Forest (R. Maragh) for interference inside the 1/16 pole. # 4 made an abrupt move on the rail shortly before the finish and appeared to shy from the rail. #’s 1 and 8 kept their position after the 1/16 pole and through the wire and did not contribute to the action of # 4. The objection was dismissed.
In addition, in the vicinity of the 1/16 pole, # 6 Mr. Anonymity (J. Ortiz) steadies on the rail as # 4 Goesse drifts in. In the judgment of the stewards, the incident did not alter the finish of the race.
No further action was warranted, and the race was declared official as is. (Order of finish: 1 – 8 – 4 – 10)
