Stewards Corner

Welcome to the Stewards’ Corner, where you will find explanations of the decisions that our stewards make on race days. Directly following any decision they make having to do with the official order of finish, including inquiries and objections, the stewards – one appointed by The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), one appointed by the New York State Gaming Commission, and one appointed by The Jockey Club (TJC) – provide an explanation of what happened and the reason for their decision. Click on the links below to read those explanations.

Race Decisions - June 8, 2012

RACE 4: Steward’s Inquiry and Jockey’s Objection: W. Garcia, the rider of # 6 Stealth Steed, lodged an objection against the winner, # 1 Ice Theater (H. A. Jerkens) for alleged interference in the stretch.

After passing the 3/16 pole, # 1 is bearing out and is directed in sharply toward the rail, which results in # 6 shifting out after the 1/8 pole.  # 1 is clear at the time and pulls away in the final 1/16 mile.

In the judgment of the stewards, the incident did not alter the finish of the race.  The race was made Official as is.
