Empire 6 jackpot at $212,494 after five days
by Pat McKenna
First mandatory payout on Sunday, August 18
With no unique winning tickets after the first five days of the Empire 6, NYRA's new jackpot-style multi-race wager, a jackpot of $212,494 will carry into Wednesday's card at Saratoga Race Course.
Week 2 of the Empire 6 features a mandatory payout day on Sunday, August 18. As a result, the entire net pool plus jackpot amount will be distributed to those selecting the greatest number of winners on Sunday's card. August 18 will be a mandatory payout day no matter if the Empire 6 jackpot is hit prior to Sunday.
The Empire 6, featuring a $0.20 bet minimum and 20 percent takeout, was added to the wagering menu on Wednesday, August 7, and will be offered on live race days for the remainder of the 2019 meet at Saratoga Race Course. The wager requires the bettor to select the first-place finisher of the final six races of the card.
If one unique ticket exists, then 100% of the net pool, plus the jackpot carryover if applicable, will be paid to the winner. If there is no unique wager selecting the first-place finisher in all six races, then 75% of the day's net pool will be distributed to those who selected the first-place finisher in the greatest number of races. The remainder will be added into the jackpot and carried to the next day's Empire 6.
In addition to Sunday, August 18, a mandatory payout will be offered on Monday, September 2, closing day at the Spa.
Live racing resumes on Wednesday at Saratoga with a 10-race card highlighted by the 5th running of the $100,000 Bolton Landing. The Empire 6 begins in Race 5 with an approximate post time of 2:58 p.m.
The 2019 summer meet at Saratoga Race Course continues through Labor Day, Monday, September 2. Racing at Saratoga Race Course is held five days a week, Wednesdays through Sundays. Closing week will run Wednesday, August 28 through Labor Day.
