Pick 6 carryover of $116K into Friday’s card at Saratoga Race Course
by Christian Abdo
Friday’s card at Saratoga Race Course will be bolstered by a Pick 6 carryover of $116,881 after the multi-race wager went unsolved during Thursday’s 11-race Opening Day program.
The $1 Pick 6 returned $1,408.50 to bettors who selected 5-of-6 winners correctly.
The sequence began in Race 6 with the favored Strong State [No. 1, $4.10*] capturing a 5 1/2-furlong maiden tilt with Irad Ortiz, Jr. aboard for trainer Al Stall, Jr. Race 7 saw main track only-entrant Sunday Girl [No. 10, $9.80] spring a mild upset in a 5 1/2-furlong off-the-turf optional claimer with Flavien Prat up for conditioner Dave Duggan.
Race 8 featured more main track-only success as Crushed Ice [No. 13, $8.80] was victorious in a 1 1/16-mile off-the-turf starter optional claimer with Julien Leparoux in the irons for trainer Anthony Quartarolo. The following race, the Phil Bauer-conditioned Warrior Johny [No. 5, $21] closed under Hall of Famer Joel Rosario to take a nine-furlong optional claimer, in Race 9.
In Race 10, the longest price in the sequence came in the form of The Queens M G [No. 11, $91] winning the six-furlong Listed $175,000 Schuylerville with Dylan Davis aboard for trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr.
With all eight horses left uncovered in the final leg [Race 11] and the carryover already guaranteed, the Hall of Famer Bill Mott-trained and Ortiz, Jr.-piloted Parkway [No. 8, $8.20] triggered the carryover after taking the 1 1/16-mile off-the-turf maiden claimer.
Friday’s Pick 6 begins in Race 5 at approximately 3:32 p.m. Eastern. First post on the 10-race card, which features the $135,000 Wilton [Race 8] and Listed $150,000 Coronation Cup [Race 9], is 1:10 p.m. Eastern.
