Pick 6 carryover of $132K into Friday’s card at Saratoga Race Course

by Keith McCalmont

The Pick 6 on Friday will be bolstered by a $132,105 carryover as the multi-race wager went unsolved Thursday at Saratoga Race Course.

The $1 Pick 6 returned $14,678 to bettors who selected 5-of-6 winners correctly.

Thursday’s sequence kicked off in Race 5 with 2-1 mutuel favorite Key Point [No. 9, $6.80] graduating on debut in a six-furlong maiden sprint for New York-bred juveniles. Jose Ortiz engineered the winning trip for four-time Eclipse Award-winning trainer Chad Brown.

The cleverly-named Dufresne [No. 1, $24.80], by Uncaptured, wired a 5 1/2-furlong Mellon maiden turf sprint for state-bred juvenile fillies in Race 6. Jose Lezcano was in the irons for trainer Michael Trombetta.

Take It Off [No. 3, $79] provided the biggest upset of the sequence with a gate-to-wire score in a seven-furlong claiming sprint for 3-year-olds and up in Race 7. Jalon Samuel put the A.C. Avila filly on the point and never looked back, opening up in the stretch run to win by four lengths.

In Race 8, Letmeno [No. 4, $10.20] provided yet another prominent winner as the 4-year-old Twirling Candy colt led at every point of call under Junior Alvarado in the seven-furlong optional-claiming sprint for trainer Ian Wilkes.

Get The Candy [No. 11] had the lead in the stretch run of Race 9 – a 5 1/2-furlong Mellon turf sprint – but Itsakeyper [No. 3, $36.40] was tipped off the rail by Dylan Davis and reeled in the leader to capture the state-bred allowance for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up.

With the carryover already guaranteed heading into the Race 10 finale – and only Amano [No. 3, $7.90], Group Hug [No. 4], Complicate [No. 9] and Abaan [No. 12] paying out to 5-of-6 winners – the Chad Brown-trained mutuel favorite Amano obliged under confident handling by Irad Ortiz, Jr.

Friday’s Pick 6 kicks off in Race 5 at 3:21 p.m. Eastern and includes the $120,000 Tale of the Cat, a six-furlong sprint for 4-year-olds and up who have not won a graded race in 2021 in Race 9. First post on the 10-race card is 1:05 p.m. Eastern.
