The latest episode of Across the Board with Andy Serling features an interview with trainer Brendan Walsh, who will saddle likely favorite Maxfield in the Grade 1, $1 million Whitney on August 7 at Saratoga Race Course. Walsh, 48, joined Serling in a wide-ranging interview regarding a variety of topics including his longstanding relationship with prestigious thoroughbred racing and breeding operation Godolphin, the owner-breeder of Maxfield.

A native of County Cork, Ireland, Walsh spoke of his introduction to racing, how he is able to thrive on circuits across the country, and his experiences working for operations worldwide, which include Godolphin as well as Newmarket-based trainer Mark Wallace.

Walsh also discussed his recent successful endeavors in Dubai World Cup undercard events with Plus Que Parfait [2019 Group 2 UAE Derby] and Extravagant Kid, who won this year’s Group 1 Al Quoz Turf Sprint.

There was a time when Annise Montplaisir, horse crazy as a young teenager, was part of racing’s “next generation.” Today, as a graduate of North Dakota State University and the Godolphin Flying Start program with a range of experience in the racing business, Montplaisir has joined the industry’s current generation. Along the way, she’s picked up something exceedingly valuable: a passion for using the lessons learned to help newcomers find their path in the industry as well.
