Pick 6 carryover of $193K on Wednesday at the Spa

by Ryan Martin

Wednesday’s card at Saratoga Race Course will be bolstered by a Pick 6 carryover of $193,772 after the multi-race wager went unsolved on Sunday’s 10-race card.

The $1 Pick 6 returned $1,699.50 to bettors who selected 5-of-6 winners correctly.

The sequence kicked off in Race 5 – an off-the-turf allowance optional claimer for fillies and mares 3-years-old and upward – when Luis Saez piloted Fannie and Freddie [No. 9, $14.80] to a third career score for trainer Al Stall, Jr.

Tom Amoss saddled Greg Tramontin’s Alys Beach [No. 6, $18.60] to victory in a 6 1/2-furlong maiden special weight for 2-year-old fillies in Race 6. Tyler Gaffalione piloted the daughter of Omaha Beach.

Under guidance from Jose Ortiz, Repole Stable’s New York-bred Jerry the Nipper [No. 11, $10] won his sixth lifetime start for trainer Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher in Race 7 – an allowance optional claimer for 3-year-olds and upward on the Mellon turf.

Leftembehind [No. 6, $11.40], trained by Barclay Tagg and ridden by Katie Davis, graduated at seventh asking in Race 8 – a $30,000 maiden claimer going one mile on the main track for 3-year-olds and upward.

The evergreen 9-year-old Channel Maker [No. 8, $32.40], the 2020 Champion Turf Male, went gate-to-wire to spring a 15-1 upset for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott in Race 9 – the Grade 2, $250,000 Bowling Green for older horses going 11 furlongs over the inner turf.

With the carryover already triggered, the sequence concluded in Race 10 – a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight for fillies and mares 3-years-old and upward – where Gaffalione returned to the winner’s circle after piloting the Phil Bauer-trained Little Prankster [No. 14, $3.50*].

Wednesday’s Pick 6 will kick off in Race 5 at 3:26 p.m. Eastern and includes the $135,000 De La Rose in Race 8. First post for the 10-race card is 1:10 p.m.
