Collect the Data, Bam’s Bliss Kiss clash in $135K Biogio’s Rose
Klaravich Stables’ Collect the Data and Mad Dog Racing Stable’s Bam’s Bliss Kiss are both in impeccable form as they search for their first stakes win amid a talented field of seven for Sunday’s $135,000 Biogio’s Rose, a one-turn mile for older New York-bred fillies and mares, at Aqueduct Racetrack.
Collect the Data enters off three consecutive wins for five-time Eclipse Award-winning trainer Chad Brown, and has won five of her last six outings dating to a maiden score at third asking when racing for a $40,000 tag in January 2024 here. She was away from the races until last July, and returned with aplomb while stepping up to a first-level state-bred allowance at Saratoga Race Course to wire the six-furlong sprint by seven lengths. She finished second next out in a local optional claiming sprint, but has been flawless in her last three outings, all over Sunday’s course and distance.
Last out, the 5-year-old daughter of Upstart eked out a neck score over stakes-placed Cupid’s Heart on March 8 in an open optional-claimer that will see third-place finisher Walk With Me and fourth-place Sweetest Princess also contest the Biogio’s Rose. Three starts back, Collect the Data also posted a six-length score over the reopposing Midtown Lights.
A $130,000 purchase at the 2022 Saratoga New York-bred Preferred Yearling Sale, Collect the Data was bred by Tony Carlo and is out of the winning Discreet Cat mare Discreet Lady, a half-sister to stakes-producing mare Offtheoldblock.
Manny Franco, the pilot in six of Collect the Data’s eight starts, returns to the irons from post 7.
The streaking Bam’s Bliss Kiss will look to notch her sixth consecutive victory and remain perfect since being claimed for $45,000 by trainer Jorge Abreu out of a sprint win in December here.
“The owner decided to pick the horse out and I didn’t do much [different] with her when she came to me,” Abreu said. “We liked that she already had those two wins under her belt before. She’s a pretty sound horse, she doesn’t have any issues with us. All positive stuff.”
The 4-year-old Solomini dark bay was initially trained by David Duggan and claimed by trainer Linda Dixon in July. The filly then posted two thirds and two wins before moving to the Abreu barn, where she has given her two best performances in an open-company optional-claiming sprint in February and in the 6 1/2-Videogenic Starter last out on March 28. The former received a career-best 91 Beyer Speed Figure while the latter garnered a 90, the two best figures in the field, and both in pacesetting fashion.
“The first time I ran her, I was a little concerned because I thought I was coming back a little too quick with her, and then the second time, she was working like she was ready to go,” Abreu said. “That last race was more like a workout for her.”
Bam’s Bliss Kiss will look to stretch out successfully beyond sprint distances for the first time on Sunday.
“She’s doing really well coming up to the race, and I only have one concern – can she handle the mile?” Abreu said. “That is my only question. She’s been training forwardly and she’s pretty straightforward. The only doubt I have is about the distance.”
Bred by Torie D. Gladwell, Bam’s Bliss Kiss initially sold for $95,000 at the 2024 OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training and is out of the Into Mischief mare Kiska.
Jaime Rodriguez, who has been aboard for the filly’s last four starts, has the call from post 5.
Wizard Stables’ Walk With Me [post 4, Eric Cancel] finished second to Collect the Data in December and third to her familiar foe last out in the aforementioned optional claimer on March 8.
Trained by David Duggan, the dual stakes-placed Central Banker bay has utilized stalking tactics in her last three outings, including a tidy three-length victory in an open optional claiming mile on February 11. Three of her four career wins have come at one-mile or nine furlongs, and she is stakes-placed at 1 1/16 miles in the state-bred Jack Betta Be Rite in October at Finger Lakes Racetrack.
“She’s training well and hopefully she can hold her form,” Duggan said. “It’s deeper water against more seasoned fillies, but I think if we’re going to take a chance, now is the time. I think a mile and an eighth is probably where she’s at her best, but she’s been proficient over the wintertime going a mile. We have to improve to beat that filly of Chad Brown’s, but hopefully we can work out a good trip and beat them.”
Duggan said he expects another solid effort from the hard-trying mare, who has hit the board in 11-of-18 lifetime starts and has banked $374,506.
“She shows up every time, and it’s time to try this depth of water to see if we belong,” Duggan said.
Walk With Me was bred by Richard Nicolai and was a $100,000 purchase at the 2022 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Eastern Fall Yearling Sale. She is out of the dual stakes-placed Posse mare Might Be, and is a full-sister to stakes-winner Bold Fortune.
Albert Ciuffetelli’s Midtown Lights [post 3, Jose Lezcano] has plenty of experience at the Big A, and brings a local record of 15-4-3-3 as she returns to state-bred company for trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr.
The 6-year-old Redesdale chestnut returned from an almost four-month respite last out when finishing an even third to dual Grade 1-placed Dry Powder in an open-company optional-claimer on March 12 at Gulfstream Park.
Midtown Lights makes her third start off the claim for Joseph, Jr., who trained the mare to a half-length optional claiming score in August at Saratoga where she was claimed for $45,000. Her current connections took her back for the same price in November out of a runner-up effort over the Biogio’s Rose course and distance.
Bred by Windylea Farm-New York, Midtown Lights is a six-time winner of over $540,000, and notched three state-bred stakes placings as a juvenile and sophomore when in the care of dual Eclipse Award-winning trainer Brad Cox. She is still in search of her first stakes win, but has finished on-the-board in 5-of-9 career efforts at that level.
Completing the field are stakes-winner Sweet Brown Sugar [post 2, Kendrick Carmouche], who makes her barn debut for trainer Rob Atras; stakes-placed Sweetest Princess [post 1, Edgard Zayas] for trainer Ilkay Kantarmaci; and six-time winner Lika Rolling Stone [post 6, Dalila Rivera] for trainer Antonio Arriaga.
The Biogio’s Rose is slated as Race 7 on Sunday’s eight-race program. First post is 1:10 p.m. Eastern.
