B Yutiful Carly ready for step up in $200K Seeking the Ante

Triple B Stables, Madaket Stables and William Strauss' B Yutiful Carly will step up in class off a rallying debut win for Friday’s $200,000 Seeking the Ante, a six-furlong sprint for New York-bred juvenile fillies, at Saratoga Race Course.

Trained by Horacio De Paz, the Greatest Honour bay was off slow under returning rider Ricardo Santana, Jr. in her 5 1/2-furlong state-bred debut on July 11 here, traveling 8 1/2 lengths back in 9th-of-10 early. B Yutiful Carly then kicked strongly in the lane, closing to win by three lengths at odds of 35-1 in a final time of 1:06.06, earning a field-best 66 Beyer Speed Figure. 

“She’s since been very consistent and forward in her works,” De Paz said. “The only issue we have is that we haven’t raced in so long. With how horses develop mentally, you’d hope she could come back in four weeks and not eight weeks for her second start, but with no other options available other than open stakes, we opted to wait for this race.”

B Yutiful Carly [post 6, Ricardo Santana, Jr.] has been a frequent workmate of the De Paz-trained debut winning juvenile colt Professor Plum, who eyes the local state-bred $200,000 Funny Cide on September 7.

“She’s more serious in workouts than he is,” De Paz said. “I’m looking forward to getting her back into her second race.” 

Bred by Dr. John and Laura McDermott, B Yutiful Carly, a $90,000 purchase at the OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training, is out of the Indian Charlie mare Little Brave. Her second dam is multiple graded stakes-placed May Night, who produced Grade 1-placed Red Rifle. 

Winning Move Stable, Sabby Racing, IEE Racing, Sanford Robbins and Silverwood Stables’ Velora [post 5, Jose Ortiz] captured her six-furlong debut by 4 3/4 lengths in a field of six state-breds on August 1 here. Trained by Linda Rice, the Yaupon dark bay stalked and pounced to victory under returning rider Jose Ortiz, overcoming a bump near the quarter-pole, and registering a 64 Beyer.

“That was a great race,” Rice said. “The competition will be stronger here, and hopefully she can move up well. She's beautiful physically. She has a great mind on her. Jose Ortiz will ride, which I’m happy about. She got a lot of experience in that last race. It was a small field, but she still kind of got bumped and there was a little traffic inside.” 

Bred by Vineyard Racing, Velora, a $300,000 purchase at the OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training, is out of the winning Scat Daddy mare Scadadle. Her second dam is stakes-placed Cape Cod Girl. 

R. A. Hill and trainer Danny Gargan’s Tiara [post 7, Kendrick Carmouche] wired a 5 1/2-furlong maiden from post 1-of-10 on June 18 at Belmont at the Big A. The Vekoma chestnut received a modest 38 Beyer but was never in doubt under returning rider Kendrick Carmouche. 

Tiara, bred by Gargan, is out of the unraced Curlin mare Elegant Curl. She has breezed seven times at the Spa since her winning debut, including a half-mile in 49.56 seconds on August 28. 

Majestic View Farms’ stakes-placed homebred Prime Aurora [post 2, Junior Alvarado, blinkers OFF] was a last-out fifth in the 6 1/2-furlong Grade 3 Adirondack on August 2 here. Trained by Abraham Gardea, the Mind Control bay was previously an 11 1/2-length third in the six-furlong Listed Schuylerville on July 3 here after a dominant debut graduation versus open company sprinting 4 1/2 furlongs in May at Gulfstream Park. 

Prime Aurora is out of the winning Political Force mare Silver Hustler, a half-sister to multiple stakes-winner Grand Slam Andre.

Rounding out the field are 7 1/2-length debut victor Cachorrita [post 1, Chris Elliott] for trainer Stacey Rushton; third-out maiden winner Saint Dymphna [post 3, John Velazquez] for trainer Amelia Green; and local debut winner You Are My Suzie Q [post 4, Ruben Silvera] for conditioner Rudy Rodriguez.

The Seeking the Ante is slated as Race 7 on Friday’s 11-race card, which features the Listed $200,000 P. G. Johnson in Race 4. First post is 1:10 p.m. Eastern.
