Live racing to resume at Belmont Park on Saturday
by Pat McKenna
Following an improvement in air quality conditions on Long Island, and in consultation with the New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC), the New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) announced that live racing will resume at Belmont Park today at 1:05 p.m.
Friday’s live racing program was canceled in its entirety due to poor air quality, which impacted large areas of New York State on Thursday and Friday.
Current forecasts call for continued air quality improvement throughout Saturday afternoon.
Saturday’s 10-race card includes the Grade 3, $200,000 Dwyer and the Grade 2, $250,000 John A. Nerud. America’s Day at the Races will present live coverage and analysis beginning at 1 p.m. on FS1 before shifting to FS2 at 1:30 p.m.
The July 4th weekend features live racing at Belmont on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday with a first post of 1:05 p.m. on all days.
