NYRA honors active, retired service members on Veterans Day at Aqueduct Racetrack

by Najja Thompson

In conjunction with Veterans Day on Monday, November 11, the New York Racing Association (NYRA) today paid tribute to the nation's active and retired military personnel at Aqueduct Racetrack.

Following the day's opening race, a 1 1/16-mile turf event won by Jabuticaba, a presentation took place featuring the NYRA jockey colony joined by Hope for the Warriors representatives and local Veterans of Foreign Wars members.

NYRA presented Hope for the Warriors with a $5,000 donation, which was matched by a further $5,000 donation from thoroughbred owner Harold Lerner in support of the organization's efforts.

Hope for the Warriors provides critical support for post-9/11 service members, their families, and families of the fallen who have sustained physical and psychological wounds in the line of duty.

Also invited on track for a special Veterans Day luncheon were local Veterans of Foreign Wars members in recognition of their service.
