Sunday’s card at Belmont at the Big A will be bolstered by a Pick 6 carryover of $33,452 after the multi-race wager went unsolved on Saturday’s 10-race card.
The $1 Pick 6 returned $214.25 to bettors who selected 5-of-6 winners correctly.
Saturday’s sequence kicked off in Race 5 as Purloin [No. 1, $4.40*] captured an off-the-turf maiden special weight for juvenile fillies with Kendrick Carmouche up for trainer Cherie DeVaux.
The John Toscano, Jr.-trained Poppy’s Pride [No. 3, $7.30] went gate-to-wire in Race 6 under Jose Ortiz to take a seven-furlong claiming sprint for 3-year-olds and up. Ski Patrol [No. 1, $8], with Jose Lezcano up for trainer Linda Rice] outdueled Three Zero in Race 7 to post a three-quarter length score in a six-furlong off-the-turf claimer for 3-year-olds and up.
Lezcano doubled up in Race 8, a six-furlong claiming sprint for 3-year-olds and up, as the Rudy Rodriguez-trained Jemography [No. 1, $8.60] notched a half-length score over Thinkaboutit.
The sequence came apart in Race 9 as Cowan [No. 2, $75], the 36-1 longest shot on the board, nosed out the 9-5 favorite Durante to win a six-furlong allowance optional-claimer for 3-year-olds and up. Jose Gomez piloted the winner for trainer Raymond E. Ginter, Jr.
With the carryover already guaranteed in Race 10 – an off-the-turf maiden for New York-bred juveniles – Wine Responsibly [No. 16, $6.60*] went gate-to-wire as the mutuel favorite with Jose Ortiz up for Rice.
