Tideoftime looks to uphold family tradition in Listed Chelsey Flower

Keith McCalmont Oct 31 2025

Phillips Racing Partnership’s well-related Kentucky homebred Tideoftime will make her stakes debut in Thursday’s Listed $150,000 Chelsey Flower, a 1 1/16-mile outer turf test for 2-year-old fillies, on Opening Day of the fall meet at Aqueduct Racetrack.

The Aqueduct fall meet will run from Thursday, November 6 through Wednesday, December 31 and is highlighted by the Grade 2, $500,000 Cigar Mile for 3-year-olds and up on Saturday, December 6.

Tideoftime is trained by Jimmy Toner, who conditioned her dam, Time and Motion, and granddam, Ellie’s Moment, to stakes victories at the Big A for these connections.

Time and Motion [15-5-1-3, $967,719], by Tapit, earned her first stakes victory here in the 2016 Memories of Silver, a race named for the dual Grade 1-winner trained by Toner for the Phillips family. Time and Motion also captured the Grade 2 Lake Placid at Saratoga Race Course and Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland that year.

Ellie’s Moment [14-6-4-0, $291,241], by Kris S, was an allowance winner over the Spa turf in 2001 but made her name on the main track, including a victory in the 2003 Rare Treat Handicap, a Listed event at the Big A.

Toner said that Tideoftime, a Mendelssohn bay, reminds him most of Time and Motion.

"Time and Motion won the Memories of Silver and I remember her well, too," said Toner, with a laugh. "She's [Tideoftime] more in line with Time and Motion. Ellie was a wonderful filly but darker and was dirt.

"It gives you a bit of head's up on how they're going to be when you know the families,” Toner added. “You get to know what to expect and some of their habits training wise. This filly has pretty much been like Time and Motion, who was a lovely filly and nice to be around. Time and Motion trained the right way and was very professional about everything and she's pretty much like her. We hope it works out the same way."

Tideoftime [post 6, Jorge Ruiz] debuted on October 12 in a one-mile turf maiden at Laurel Park, exiting post 3-of-10 under returning rider Jorge Ruiz and saving ground in seventh position. She advanced up the rail to third down the backstretch and when tipped out for the stretch run, she responded with a good kick to overtake the pacesetting Coach Mazzula and stave off the late bid of Siouxse to score by three-quarter lengths in a final time of 1:37.66. The winning effort earned a 69 Beyer Speed Figure.

“She's a pretty nice filly,” Toner said. “She trained really well, and I was debating whether to go to Keeneland with her or Laurel, but Keeneland is not easy so we stayed home, and she got the job done.

"She did everything right. She was good in the paddock and warmed up nice," Toner continued. "She got behind horses and it didn't bother her. She sat there and when he tipped her out and asked her to go, she went. You couldn't ask for more from a first-time starter. She was very professional.”

Toner noted that Tideoftime showed tenacity to fight on in deep stretch and gallop out in front of Siouxse.

“That horse got to her but then she started to draw off from her. She's a quality filly and does everything the right way,” Toner said.

Tideoftime has worked back twice over the Fair Hill synthetic, including a half-mile effort this morning in 49 flat under Ruiz.

“She's good right now and we can freshen her up after this. She worked very nice and went in 49 in hand over the Tapeta. She cooled out good and we're looking forward to the race,” Toner said.

Gregory Hoffman’s Fille d’Oro [post 5, Manny Franco] will look to improve upon a rallying fourth-place finish last out in the local 1 1/16-mile Miss Grillo on October 4.

Trained by dual Eclipse Award-winner Brad Cox, the Wootton Bassett bay graduated on debut in August at Saratoga, pouncing to a 1 1/2-length score in a 1 1/16-mile turf maiden under regular rider Manny Franco.

Fille d’Oro exited post 9-of-11 in the Miss Grillo and immediately found a ground saving trip in eighth position in behind returning rival Deep Learning as pacesetter Ground Support reached the half-mile in 48.65 over the firm turf. Both Fille D’oro and Deep Learning tipped out for the stretch run, with the former angling widest and rallying strong down the lane but there was no catching Ground Support, a two-length winner over Deep Learning with another half-length back to Quiet Street, who was a neck better than Fille d’Oro in fourth. The Kelsey Danner-trained Group Support stopped the clock in 1:43.32 and is listed at 15-1 on the morning line for the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf later today at Del Mar.

Fille d’Oro, a $357,206 purchase at the 2024 Arqana Deauville August Yearling Sale, is out of the winning Medaglia d’Oro mare D’oro Diva – a half-sister to Group 2-winner Brooch, the dam of the Cox-trained 2021 Grade 1 Kentucky Derby-winner Mandaloun.

Cox will also send out Sofia Soares and Robert Cotrone’s Ohio-bred Bella Knows [post 4, Junior Alvarado], who stretches out from a three-length sixth in the six-furlong Grade 3 Matron on October 2 here.

The Kantharos bay graduated on debut in August at the Spa, closing from ninth-of-10 and 12 lengths off the pace to notch a half-length score in a 5 1/2-furlong turf sprint. She exited the outermost post 8 last out and launched a six-wide bid down the lane but failed to menace. The top-two finishers of the Matron are entered on today's Breeders' Cup card with the victorious Final Accord stretching out in the Juvenile Fillies Turf, while runner-up Royal Testament is entered in the Juvenile Turf Sprint.

The $60,000 Keeneland September Yearling Sale purchase is out of the winning Bellamy Road mare Bellamy Knows, a half-sister to multiple graded stakes-winner Toinette. Her second dam, the Sunriver mare I Bet Toni Knows, won the seven-furlong NYSSS Cupecoy’s Joy over the Belmont Park turf in 2012.

Five-time Eclipse Award-winning trainer Chad Brown will look for a record-extending seventh win in this event when he sends out Deep Learning [post 3, Flavien Prat] and Fitz Right [post 2, Ricardo Santana, Jr.]

Brown’s past winners include Ava’s Kitten [2015], Create a Dream [2016], Seek and Destroy [2018], Ingrassia [2020], Implicated [2022] and Opulent Restraint [2024].

Klaravich Stables’ Deep Learning earned a field-best 85 Beyer Speed Figure for her 3 1/4-length debut score in a 1 1/16-mile route on August 8 at Saratoga. That effort propelled the Cairo Prince dark bay to the Grade 1 Natalma on September 13 at Woodbine where she rallied six-wide to land a 1 3/4-length fifth behind the victorious and undefeated Corsia Veloce.

The $325,000 OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training purchase enters from the aforementioned runner-up effort in the Miss Grillo.

Deep Learning is out of the Union Rags mare Dovima, a half-sister to multiple graded stakes-winner Secret Gypsy.

William Lawrence, Michael Dubb, The Elkstone Group and Michael Kisber’s Fitz Right graduated at second asking on September 20 at Meadowlands, pouncing to a nose victory over Skywatcher in a one-mile maiden tilt. Skywatcher returned here last week to run sixth in a 1 1/16-mile maiden route won by Candy Moonshine.

The $200,000 Keeneland September Yearling Sale purchase, by Charlatan, is a half-sister to stakes-placed Eliminate with both being out of the Grade 3-winning Henny Hughes mare I’m a Looker.

Stuart Janney’s Kentucky homebred Getting Serious [post 1, Samuel Marin] will make her stakes debut for Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey.

The Hard Spun bay debuted on August 28 at Kentucky Downs, closing from seventh and eight lengths off the pace to finish a one-length third to the pacesetting winner Should’ve in a 6 1/2-furlong maiden.

She returned last out here on October 5 in a 1 1/16-mile maiden and utilized a close-up stalking trip under returning rider Samuel Marin to post a three-quarter-length score over next-out winner and returning foe Candy Moonshine. The winning effort earned a 69 Beyer.

Getting Serious is out of the Flatter mare Romantic Moment – a half-sister to Grade 3-winner Kiss Moon and multiple graded stakes-placed Kiss Mine. Her second dam is Grade 3-winner Kiss the Devil.

Brody Racing’s Devilish Grin [post 8, Joel Rosario] arrives from a fourth-out graduation on October 4 here in a 1 1/16-mile maiden optional-claimer for fillies that sold or RNA’d for $60,000 or less in their most recent sale.

The Daredevil chestnut, racing without the tag, rallied from eighth position to post a nose score over Salt Princess.

The $30,000 OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training purchase boasts a perfect in-the-money record of 4-1-2-1, including a sixth-length third in the 1 1/16-mile Listed P.G. Johnson presented by Snap-On on August 27 at the Spa.

Devilish Grin is out of the Grade 3-winning Sea The Stars mare Casual Smile, while her second dam is the Group 1-winning Red Ransom mare Casual Look.

A robust field includes aforementioned maiden winner Candy Moonshine [post 7, Jaime Rodriguez] for trainer Michael Gorham; while Hidden Rose is entered for the main-track only.

Secane and Day to Day top rescheduled Tempted

The Listed $150,000 Tempted, a one-turn mile for juvenile fillies, was originally scheduled for Friday, October 31, but was re-scheduled to Thursday after live racing was canceled due to high winds.

The Tempted was redrawn with all five of the original starters topped by a formidable pair for trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr. in Secane [post 4, Edgard Zayas] and Day to Day [post 1, Flavien Prat].

Final Furlong Farm and Madaket Stables’ Pennsylvania-bred Secane won her lone outing by 7 3/4 lengths sprinting seven furlongs on August 15 at Gulfstream Park. The Audible bay showed speed under Edgard Zayas and wired the field, earning a 74 Beyer Speed Figure in victory. She was entered in the local one-turn mile Grade 1 Frizette on October 4, but was scratched.

C Two Racing Stable, BAG Racing Stables, Barry Fowler, Charles Deters and Mark Taylor’s Day to Day returns to dirt after an eighth-place finish in the Grade 2 Miss Grillo last out here on October 4.

The McKinzie bay won on debut in July over the Colonial Downs turf for her former trainer Michael Trombetta before being privately purchased. She followed with a distant fourth in the Spa’s Grade 1 Spinaway when 15 3/4-lengths back of the victorious Tommy Jo, who is favored in today’s Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Del Mar.

The rest of the rescheduled Tempted field in post-position order is Shilling [post 2, Christopher Elliott] for trainer Ken McPeek, Spa Prospector [post 3, Jose Lezcano] for trainer Tom Amoss, and Believable [post 5, Kendrick Carmouche] for Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher.

The reschedule Tempted is slated as Race 2 on Thursday’s nine-race card while the Chelsey Flower will go as Race 6. First post is 12:10 p.m. Eastern.
