Pick 6 carryover of $53K into Friday’s card at Belmont Park
by Keith McCalmont
The Pick 6 on Friday will be bolstered by a $53,716 carryover as the multi-race wager went unsolved on Thursday at Belmont Park.
The $1 Pick 6 returned $389 to bettors who selected 4-of-6 winners correctly.
Thursday’s sequence kicked off with a major upset in Race 4 as Equal Measure [No. 11, $65] arrived in the nick of time to secure a nose score over 3-1 shot Lido Key in the 1 1/16-mile claiming tilt for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and up contested on the firm Widener turf. Dylan Davis engineered the upset for trainer A. C. Avila.
Regal Speaker [No. 7, $10.40] won Race 5, a 1 1/16-mile allowance optional-claiming tilt on the inner turf for state-bred 3-year-olds and up, with Luis Saez up for trainer Danny Gargan. Saez completed a riding double in Race 6, guiding Varatti [No. 8, $9.10] to a 4 1/2-length maiden score at first asking for Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher in a 6 1/2-furlong sprint for 2-year-olds on Big Sandy.
Davis piloted his second winner in the sequence when the Charlton Baker-trained Glass Ceiling [No. 1, $11.40] dominated a 6 1/2-furlong allowance sprint on the main track for fillies and mares 3-year-old and up.
Ballydooley [No. 1, $39.20] provided another significant upset with a prominent score at odds of 18-1 in Race 8, a six-furlong inner turf allowance sprint for 3-year-olds and up. Hall of Famer Javier Castellano rode the winner for trainer Michelle Nevin.
In the Race 9 finale, with the carryover already guaranteed, Amortization [No. 10, $20.40] rallied to victory under Castellano for trainer George Weaver in the 1 1/16-mile claiming test for fillies and mares 3-year-old and up on the Widener turf.
Friday’s Pick 6 kicks off in Race 4 at 2:34 p.m. Eastern and will include the $125,000 John Hettinger, a nine-furlong inner turf test for state-bred fillies and mares slated for Race 8. First post on the nine-race card is 1 p.m. Eastern.
