With live racing on the NYRA circuit currently on hiatus due to the continued impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, this weekend's broadcast will be highlighted by the hotly anticipated return of live racing at historic Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.
The Churchill meet has attracted a bevy of familiar jockeys from the NYRA circuit including Hall of Famers John Velazquez and Javier Castellano along with stars such as Jose Ortiz, Manny Franco and Joel Rosario.
Saturday's Opening Day card from Churchill will feature the return of 2018 Eclipse Award-winner Monomoy Girl, who took honors as Champion Three-Year-Old Filly on the back of six graded-stakes wins.
Trained by Brad Cox for owners Michael Dubb, Monomoy Stables, The Elkstone Group, and Bethlehem Stables, Monomoy Girl won five Grade 1s as a sophomore including scores in the Ashland at Keeneland; the Acorn at Belmont Park; the Coaching Club American Oaks at Saratoga Race Course; and the Kentucky Oaks and Breeders' Cup Distaff at Churchill Downs.
Florent Geroux has the call on Monomoy Girl from Post 2 in the one-mile allowance optional-claiming event that drew a field of seven inluding graded-stakes winner Talk Veuve to Me.
