The Puma held his own against stiff competition on the Kentucky Derby trail in Florida. He placed third in the Sam F. Davis, second in the Florida Derby, and won the Tampa Bay Derby. Entering the Kentucky Derby as a top contender, The Puma was forced to scratch due to a leg issue.
