Heavy rains force cancellation of racing at Belmont Park

by Pat Mckenna

Following unexpectedly heavy rain in the New York City metro area, the New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) was forced to cancel the final six races at Belmont Park following the third race on Saturday, June 17 to ensure the safety of all participants.

Simulcasting at Belmont Park and Aqueduct Racetrack will remain open through the day.

Saturday's $194,809 Pick Six carryover will now carryover to Sunday.

First post on Sunday, Father's Day, is 1:30 p.m. Post time for the $300,000 Grade 3 Poker Stakes is 5:13 p.m.

Father's Day gets underway with the popular "Breakfast at Belmont" on Sunday morning, where racing fans can enjoy breakfast in the Belmont Café while watching horses train on the main track beginning at 8 a.m.

In the afternoon, dads can take in a classic car show in the west end of the grandstand and celebrate Father's Day with a Belmont Park t-shirt giveaway, hand-rolled cigars, massages, and a bourbon tasting at the Paddock Terrace Tent. Sunday is also family fun day in Belmont's spacious backyard, with a number of activities for children of all ages.
