NYRA cancels live racing Friday at Aqueduct

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) has canceled live racing on Friday at Aqueduct Racetrack due to high winds forecast to impact the New York City metropolitan area.

The National Weather Service has placed Southern Queens under a wind advisory beginning at 12 p.m. Eastern, with current forecasts calling for sustained high winds and gusts in excess of 45 mph.

Two Listed $150,000 stakes originally scheduled for Friday – the Tempted and the Pumpkin Pie – have been rescheduled. The Tempted will now be run on Thursday, November 6 with entries taken today, October 31. The Pumpkin Pie will be run on Saturday, November 8 with entries taken on Sunday, November 2. 

Aqueduct Racetrack will remain open for simulcasting today from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. to accommodate the Breeders’ Cup Future Stars program from Del Mar. Wagering is also available via NYRABets.com.

Live racing was also canceled on Thursday, October 30 at Aqueduct due to a powerful storm that generated extremely high winds and rainfall of more than 2.5”.

The Belmont at the Big A fall meet will resume Saturday with a 10-race card featuring the Listed Nashua [Race 4] and Listed Aqueduct Turf Sprint Championship [Race 9]. First post is 12:05 p.m.

The Pick 6 carryover of $34,908 will move to Saturday's program, beginning in Race 5 at 1:55 p.m.

The Big A will be open to the public from 10:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturday so racing fans can watch and wager on the simulcast of the Breeders’ Cup from Del Mar. Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup program is headlined by the Grade 1, $7 million Breeders’ Cup Classic.
