NYRA cancels live racing Wednesday through Friday at Aqueduct Racetrack
The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) today announced the cancelation of live racing Wednesday through Friday this week at Aqueduct Racetrack due to arctic temperatures and extremely low wind chill values forecast to impact the New York metropolitan area.
NYRA, in consultation with the Jockeys’ Guild, New York Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association (NYTHA) and New York Thoroughbred Breeders, Inc. (NYTB), will request formal approval from the New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) to conduct live racing on Wednesday, February 4 with additional make-up days to be determined at a later date.
Aqueduct Racetrack will be closed to the public on Wednesday but will re-open for simulcast operations on Thursday and Friday. Online wagering is available via NYRABets.com.
The $135,000 Ladies, originally scheduled for Saturday, January 17 and subsequently moved to Friday, January 30, will be brought back Saturday, January 31. Entries for this Saturday’s card will be taken on Tuesday, January 27.
As previously announced, the $135,000 Interborough will be brought back Friday, February 6, with entries to be taken on Saturday, January 31.
NYRA will bring back races carded for Wednesday and Thursday as extras for February 1 and beyond with entries commencing on Wednesday, January 28.
The races currently offered in the condition book for Friday, January 30, will be used for the proposed Wednesday, February 4 program with entries to be taken on Thursday, January 29.
The Aqueduct winter meet, which spans January 1 through Sunday, March 30, is highlighted by the one-mile Grade 3, $300,000 Gotham, providing 50-25-15-10-5 Kentucky Derby qualifying points. The Gotham Day card, slated for Saturday, February 28, includes the Grade 3, $175,000 Tom Fool for 4-year-olds and up going six furlongs, the Listed $150,000 Stymie at one mile for older horses, and the Listed one-mile $200,000 Busher for 3-year-old fillies, offering 50-25-15-10-5 Kentucky Oaks qualifying points.
