by Jim Reisler
America's Day at the Races will provide 21 hours of live racing this week from the Belmont Park spring/summer meet
America's Day at the Races, produced by the New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) in partnership with FOX Sports, returns this Thursday on FOX Sports and MSG+ for the start of four days of coverage and analysis of the best in thoroughbred racing from Belmont Park and Churchill Downs.
The acclaimed national telecast will air Thursday through Sunday on FS1, FS2 and MSG+ for a combined 21 hours of national television coverage.
Featured each day will be stakes action from Belmont Park, starting Thursday with the $80,000 Flat Out for 4-year-olds & up, which goes 1 3/8 miles on the dirt and will feature the return of 2019 Grade 1 Belmont Stakes winner Sir Winston.
The $125,000 Commentator Handicap runs Friday with New York-breds 3-years-old & up going one mile on the dirt.
On Saturday, viewers can watch one of the premier races of the Belmont spring/summer meet, the 52nd running of the $300,000 Grade 1 Ogden Phipps for fillies and mares, 4-year-olds & up, at 1 1/16 miles on the dirt. The winner will earn a "Win and You're In" berth into the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Distaff on November 7 at Keeneland through the Breeders' Cup Challenge Series.
The race honors the late Ogden Phipps, the legendary owner/breeder and New York native whose champions included Buckpasser, Easy Goer and the undefeated Personal Ensign. Mr. Phipps earned several Eclipse Awards for Outstanding Breeder and Owner and was posthumously awarded the Eclipse Award of Merit, the American horse racing industry's highest honor.
Highlighting Sunday's racing will be the 41st running of the $100,000 Mike Lee for 3-year-old New York-breds going seven furlongs on the dirt.
