by NYRA Press Office
The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) has canceled live racing on Saturday at Belmont Park due to dangerously high winds associated with a strong coastal storm forecast to impact Long Island and the New York metropolitan area throughout the day.
In addition to heavy rain and coastal flooding, the National Weather Service has issued a high wind advisory calling for gusts of up to 50 mph.
The Belmont Cafe and Aqueduct Racetrack will remain open for simulcasting and online wagering is available through NYRA Bets.
Live racing will resume on Sunday, October 28 at Belmont Park with a 9-race card highlighted by the $125,000 Zagora, the $100,000 Pumpkin Pie and the $100,000 Chelsey Flower. Post time on Sunday, closing day of the 2018 Belmont Park Fall Championship Meet, is 12:30 p.m.
Saturday's scheduled stakes have been re-carded for opening weekend at Aqueduct with the Grade 3, $200,000 Bold Ruler slated for Friday, November 2, while the $100,000 English Channel and the $100,000 Awad will be brought back for Sunday, November 4.
