Pick 6 carryover of $179K on Wednesday at the Spa

by Ryan Martin

Wednesday’s card at Saratoga Race Course will be bolstered by a Pick 6 carryover of $179,735 after the multi-race wager went unsolved on Sunday’s 10-race card.

The $1 Pick 6 returned $1,762 to bettors who selected 5-of-6 winners correctly.

The sequence kicked off in Race 5 – a nine-furlong inner turf allowance optional claimer for 3-years-old and upward – when Irad Ortiz, Jr. piloted Activist Investing [No. 1A, $6.30] to a second career score for trainer Chad Brown.

Wayne Catalano saddled Legion Racing’s Zadorsky [No. 2, $11.80] to victory in a six-furlong restricted maiden special weight for 2-year-old fillies [Race 6]. Jose Lezcano piloted the bay daughter of Tapiture.

Under guidance from Jose Ortiz, the David Jacobson-owned and trained Business Model [No. 8, $25.20] won for the fifth time in Race 7 – a seven-furlong allowance optional claimer for 3-year-olds and upward over the main track.

Winchell Thoroughbreds’ Magic Tap [No. 7, $8.80], trained by Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen and ridden by Tyler Gaffalione, defeated winners for the first time in Race 8 – a nine-furlong allowance tilt on the main track for 3-year-olds and upward.

Gaffalione captured the double when returning to the winner’s circle aboard the Tom Amoss-trained He’smyhoneybadger [No. 7, $9.20] in Race 9 – a seven-furlong allowance optional claimer for 3-year-olds and upward.

With all but two horses covered in the final leg in Race 10 – the $150,000 Mahony going 5 1/2 furlongs on the Mellon turf for sophomores – the Adam Rice-trained and co-owned Closethegame Sugar [No. 3, $41] picked up a stakes win in his third lifetime start, while providing Lezcano with his second conquest of the day.

Wednesday’s Pick 6 will kick off in Race 4 at 2:52 p.m. Eastern and features the $125,000 Suzie O’Cain in Race 8. First post for the nine-race card is 1:10 p.m.
