This week's Across the Board with Andy Serling podcast, featuring an interview with retired jockey and current NYRA valet and exercise rider Nick Santagata, is now available for download.
A native of Brooklyn, New York, Santagata joined Serling at Aqueduct Racetrack to discuss his career, including his introduction to the sport and career as a jockey. Santagata, who won his first race in 1978, notched more than 4,000 wins in his career including 16 graded stakes en route to becoming the all-time leading rider at The Meadowlands racetrack.
Currently working as an exercise rider for trainer Gary Contessa in addition to being a jockey valet on the NYRA circuit, Santagata also discussed his transition from being a rider in the afternoons to working in the mornings.
